On paper (for the all-important job applications) it's regarded by potential employers as better than spending a season only teaching. With guaranteed job interviews at Porters and job hook ups in the USA and Japan created on the reputation and success of past students, you know you are getting the best.
Get real hands-on experience. You get the ski school jacket and name badge and your very own group of students to teach. Rest assured you will have the support of ex-students and other instructors by your side.
Not only do you get a bunch of awesome training. Once you are qualified you will get an interview with the Porters ski school and if you have what it takes you can gain paid work as a ski instructor for rest of the season. Want more head straight to the Northern Hemisphere winter and work as instructor. Follow this up with a direct in for an interview to work at Porters again. This is simply priceless as NZ has limited jobs and attracts top instructors from around the globe. Porters alone gets 100's of applications and is one of the only mountains that provides work visas. Ex students equate to about half of the ski instructor staff at Porters and each year offer a position to most students who have what it takes.
Living in the local hotel of a classic kiwi farming village you will truly become a part of the community.
Its the norm for a local to invite you out pig hunting or for a horse trek or jet boat ride over a few beers by the fire. Equally you become known as part of the Porters team to the locals and staff alike. To get the most out of your free time we take you on some of our favourite adventures around the South Island and of course the classic of all classics - a trip to the rugby sporting some of the top All Blacks.
Get this...Jase is so dedicated to snow that one season he skied every month of the year. He skis day and night walking kilometers for a few summer turns or travels the globe to get tracks. He painted his truck yellow to match his snowmobile. He designed and built his own skis for the local mountains "The Craigieburners" . His cyber name is jaseskiwi ( the skiing kiwi ). He named his son Porter after the ski area, reads at least 4 weather reports multiple times a day to ensure the best area to ride every day. He seeks out fresh tracks like a sniffer dog in the airport, reads and talks ski technique over watching the All blacks. No matter the conditions of the snow or weather he enjoys it like it's the best day ever. He gets as amped about a student doing an awesome demo turn or teaching a quality lesson as much as seeing them stomp a sweet line. Jase takes time out for heaps of summer turns. With his passion for the snow and seeing people achieve their dreams ensures his unrivalled enthusiasm and dedication to his students. With 1000s of days in the local ski areas and back country under his belt over the last 25 years he just eats up the chance to pass his knowledge and enthusiasm to others.
